Most drivers encounter unsafe road conditions in their life. It can appear in many forms, for instance, poor weather, drunk driving and a simple human error can cause a life taking event.

On the other hand, sometimes the condition of the road itself can put your life in jeopardy. Some of the roads appear to be normal, but have high ratio of death rates. Other just look amazingly insane to be true.

Here is the list of top 5 dangerous roads in the world, which have a history of accidents or have caused problems to the drivers.

5. The Death Road, Bolivia


The Death Road, which is also known as the North Yungus Road, is a 62-70 km road leading from La Paz to Coroica. It is highly known for its extreme danger and more commonly titled as the ''world's most dangerous road''

One estimate is that 200-300 travelers were killed yearly along the road, which is proven by the road itself, which includes crosses marking many of the spots where such vehicles have fallen.

4. Sichuan - Tibet Highway, China

The 2500 km long Sichuan - Tiber Highway starts from chengdu of Sichuan on the east and ends at Lhasa of Tibet on the west. Sichuan - Tibet Highway traverses 14 high mountains, contains dozens of very famous rivers (Dadu River, Jinsha River, Lantsang River, Nuijiang), crosses many forests and lots of dangerous sections.

Sichuan - Tibet has spectacular views along the line with unique ethnic customs. Morever in Sichuan - Tibet Highway, landslides and avalanches are common, making it undoubtedly a dangerous road to drive on.

3. Fairy Meadows Road, Pakistan

Located at the base of Nanga Parbat is a picturesque destination for Photographers, backpackers and mountain Climbers, who wants to go on peak of mountains and enjoy the scenery.

Getting to the Fairy Meadows road, however is not an attractive place, part of the road involves surviving a 6 mile, hour long drive on a unstable road hacked out of the barren hills.

Although a great road for motorists because it offers all the insane features of your mountainside dirt trial. It's narrow, steep and unpaved. A road for the adventurous but not for the faint hearted people.

2. Stelvio Pass Road Trollstigen, Italy

The highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Apls, the stelvio pass road connects with Valtellina with the upper addige valley and Mareno. It is located in the Italian alps near Bormio and Sulden, 75km from Balzano, close to swiss Border.

While it may not be as risky as other deadly routes, but it's certainly breathtaking. The tour books advice that it is the toughest and most spectacular road in the world, specially from the Prato side.

1. Siberian Road to Yuktsk, Russia

The Russian federal highway connects moscow to Tuktsk, where the coldest temperature outside Antarctica has been recorded. During the winter, this road is subject to heavy snow, ice and more dangerously reduced visibility. 

Even during the summer, When the rain swings Tuktsk it creates a mud induced traffic Jam. Near thousand vehicle traffic jam are not unheard of and during these back ups and travelers might pass the time while stuck in siberian traffic by looting, beating and kidnapping other travelers, Siberian mud pirates.

  3. Me & MY son want to walk the Stelvio Pass Road it is beautiful might take us the rest of our lives but he could lives to tell it, He is 29 next month I am 74 so what do u think?

  4. In the US, Red Mountain Pass in Colorado is a white-knuckle drive!!!!! There are a few good videos on youtube of the drive. BEAUTIFUL, BUT SCARY!!! And forget doing it in the winter!!

  5. Maui has a couple of roads worse than most of those. On the back side of the Hana Hwy, just past Kaupo, there is one hair pin turn that has, probably a 1,000 ft drop, with a pile of cars at the bottom, in different stages of decay. I'd say it qualifies... We even sell t-shirts here that read, "I survived Hana Hwy, Maui, Hawaii".

Cerre Muerte Costa Rica..... 1 the shape of the road ,,curves,, grade , etc....2 the landslide, mudslides , rainy season,,, fog etc.... 3 the condition pot holes,, throw together half ass bridges...etc... 4 the Costa rican drivers,,,no value of life,,, drunk,,, uneducated,,,etc.... 5 Costa Rica is has the highest auto fatalities per capita in the world.....

Costa Rica..... 1 the layout ,curves, grade, etc..2 the condition , pot holes,, half ass bridges, and construction etc.. 3 the rainy season and nightly fog,, landslides.. etc.. 4 The Costa Ricans drunk, uneducated ,no sence of value to life, only care about themselves, etc.. 5 Costa Rica has the highest auto accident and highest auto fatalities per capita of any country in the world... you are safer driving any of those 5 most dangerous roads than you are driving any road in Costa Rica never mind it most difficult one the Cerre Muerte which translates to Mountain of Death actually not from cars driving on it but from years ago when Costa Ricans would go on horseback or oxcart or walk and die from it being cold..which seemed strange to me because it doesn't really ever reach freezing point...
